AMCC’s Program for Pain & Palliative Care in French-speaking sub-Saharan Africa

The goal of AMCC’s program is to improve pain and palliative care in French-speaking sub-Saharan countries through education and training of local doctors and nurses in the delivery of care as well as sensitization for leaders in these countries about the need for such palliative care.

Main Achievements

  • Organization of training courses, including lectures and “hands-on” training which have taken place in French-speaking sub-Saharan African countries (done in collaboration with Hospice Africa France).
  • Sensitization and training workshops within Benin, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Congo Brazzaville, Ivory Coast and Mali.
  • Organization of training for doctors and care-givers in the “Principles of Palliative Care” which is given in French to participants (a collaborative effort with Hospice Africa France, Hospice Africa, Uganda).
  • The development of an on-line platform to support palliative care initiatives in French-speaking African countries and to foster the exchange of knowledge and information, including discussion of complex cases. This forum, PALLIAFRIQUE can be accessed through this link: http://forum-palliafrique.org.
  • Present a session related to Palliative Care Development during the Congress of the Association Francophone des Soins Oncologiques de Support in Paris. These sessions are held biennially.
